Gaming providers in Sweden, including ATG, Svenska Spel, and Kindred Group, have partnered to disclose information about their patrons exhibiting indications of gambling addiction.

The goal of this project is to raise public consciousness and promote evidence-based discussions on reducing gambling-related harm. The three firms will publish data on four essential metrics semi-annually: the proportion of active clients contacted due to problematic gambling, the efficacy of those interventions in curbing gambling behavior, the typical decrease in gambling among those contacted, and the percentage of customers who opted for self-exclusion from all gaming platforms.

This information is vital, as the Swedish Public Health Agency approximates that 56% of Swedish citizens engaged in some form of wagering in the preceding year. Although gaming is a prevalent leisure activity in Sweden, the same study indicated a low degree of public confidence in the gaming sector.

Henrik Tjärnström, CEO of Kindred Group, stressed the significance of openness, asserting that “By disclosing these key figures every six months, it will be simpler for our stakeholders to monitor and comprehend how we, through regulation, technology, research, and human interaction, strive to combat detrimental gambling.”

We strongly hold the conviction that transparent and frank dialogues, rooted in verifiable information, represent the optimal path to fostering confidence within the gaming sector. Such an approach will further motivate other industry participants to embrace the leading practices we observe developing.

Although a future characterized by “zero revenue derived from detrimental gambling” constitutes the ultimate aspiration, this recent collaborative endeavor with ATG and Svenska Spel signifies a substantial stride towards a more open and accountable gambling landscape within Sweden.
