The state of Kansas witnessed a record-breaking month for sports wagering in September, with bettors placing a total of $219.3 million in bets.

Kansas legalized sports betting in September of the previous year. Since its inception, the amount of money wagered by players has been steadily rising. September’s total was a significant 36.6% increase compared to the same period last year, reaching $160.5 million.

The figures for September 2023 also indicate a substantial 132.3% increase from the $94.4 million wagered in August. Moreover, this surpassed the previous record of $206.3 million set in March of this year by a margin of 6.3%.

Out of all the bets placed in September, $201.1 million was wagered online, while $18.2 million was wagered at physical sportsbooks.

In terms of revenue, September generated $8.1 million. This represents a remarkable 523.1% year-over-year increase from $1.3 million and a 68.8% increase from the $4.8 million recorded in August.

Online sports betting contributed $7.6 million to the month’s total revenue, while retail sportsbooks accounted for $459,336.

Boot Hill Casino and DraftKings Maintain Top Position in Kansas
Analyzing the monthly performance, Boot Hill Casino and its partner DraftKings continued to dominate the online market. The partnership’s handle reached $97.2 million in September, generating $3.3 million in revenue.

Kansas Star Casino and FanDuel secured the second position with a handle of $54.5 million and a total revenue of $3 million. Kansas Crossing Casino and BetMGM came in third, recording a handle of $21.4 million and revenue of $813,946.

Within the realm of retail sports wagering, Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway and Barstool maintain their leading positions. Gamblers placed bets totaling sixteen million dollars at the establishment, resulting in a revenue stream of three hundred ninety-three thousand, four hundred eighty-five dollars.

Kansas Star and its FanDuel retail sportsbook closely trailed, with one point two million dollars in wagers and eleven thousand, seven hundred seventeen dollars in revenue.

The state collected four hundred eighty-four thousand, three hundred sixty-six dollars in taxes from sports betting during that period. This encompassed seven hundred sixty thousand, one hundred sixty-three dollars in online taxes and forty-five thousand, nine hundred thirty-four dollars in retail taxes.
